Privacy basics

A Privacy Checklist Before Sharing Your Email

Consider the website, purpose, retention, recovery needs, and whether an alias or permanent secondary inbox would be safer.

Educational content only. Always follow applicable law and third-party terms.

Start with the purpose

Use a temporary address only when the communication is genuinely short-lived and losing access would not create harm. A permanent address or managed alias is often better for purchases, subscriptions, and account recovery.

Minimize risk

  • Never share passwords, financial details, or identity documents.
  • Assume an address may expire or become blocked.
  • Avoid public inbox systems for private messages.
  • Use unique passwords and multi-factor authentication for permanent accounts.

Choose the right tool

Disposable inboxes, aliases, secondary accounts, and masked-email services solve different problems. Select the least risky option that still meets your privacy needs.
